BURLESQUERCISE PRESENTS:
Rocky Mountain Dancesport Grand Prix

The foxy…Keely Schneider

Society teaches us that we should be ashamed of our bodies if they aren’t perfect; The amazing teachers at Burlesquercise teach that every woman’s body is perfect and special and that we must learn to appreciate our curves and jiggles!

When I first learned Zoning in class, I thought “You want me to touch what!” LOL, but that is just part of the process that helps you to appreciate your body and feel proud to be a woman instead of feeling embarrassed and ashamed! With Di’s classes, once you’ve broken down that barrier in your mind of what is deemed “socially acceptable”, you learn to embrace your new sense of confidence and sexiness with pride and dignity!

Di makes each class fun and entertaining, all the while providing us with a great workout, new sexy moves and the opportunity to explore ourselves as women. I love the dance routines that Di teaches in her classes; She is truly one of the best teachers (and women) I’ve ever known! She makes all women, even beginners, feel comfortable and sexy and you always leave class feeling refreshed and with a bit of a strut. Her classes provide a great way to get fit, toned and to learn to dance while having an absolute BLAST doing it! I must say that I am truly addicted to this new incredible phenomenon that she has created!

Di has taught me to embrace the sexy vixen inside me. Every women has one in them, you just have to learn to let it out!

We love you Di!

I absolutely LOVE Burlesquercise!

Its not about shakin' your tata's in someone's face and singing "I am woman here me roar" like some of my friends thought when I told them what kind of dance I do. Its CLASSY and SASSY... a great workout and fun! (2 words that don't go together in my vocabulary).

It is NOT jazzercise in fishnets either. Di balances the perfect mix of technique, encouragement and playful fun in every class and that equals EMPOWERMENT. You can walk in feeling like a miserable cow and come out feeling like a goddess again, not a diva, a sexy wonderful WOMAN.

Every woman should give herself this gift. There is not even one student that didnt come out of a class feeling yummier.

Go Di Go!

Thank god for you and what you bring to this world!
Luv ya!

The foxy Melinda Vaz…

I just wanted to say thank you for hosting such a fabulous event, The 2010 Cabaret Christmas Gala!

I was in the beginner’s group and had the opportunity to be coached by Annick on Wednesday, and attended a couple of Saturday classes (taught by Kim and yourself) when I missed them on Wednesdays. I had fun in each one of my classes and have recommended them to all my friends. All you ladies are hilarious smile Thank you for giving me the opportunity to come out of my shell and learn to love me for me smile

Cabaret Christmas Gala a milestone for Donna!

Look how happy you and Steve made me!

I felt like a girl...finally!

I loved all of it, the dancing, my new friends, the night, the supportive crowd, the long stemmed rose, the martini, the surprise of the champagne but mostly I am grateful that I have met you and your wonderful staff so that I can be part of something I thought was unobtainable for me.

I thought this feeling of confidence and owning the moment only belonged to the beautiful woman of the world, the models, dancers, rich and famous, actresses, those with perfect bodies and teeth.

You have taught me to be the best that I can be, that attitude and confidence start from within and then and only then can it radiate outside of me...no matter what my age or size. And that the sexiest thing about a woman is her confidence!!!

I wish you and all those you hold in your heart, the Merriest Christmas, or holiday or what ever belief you hold dearest to your own heart.

Cheers !
See you in 2011
Donna

I just wanted to say thank you… I really enjoyed the classes, had fun at the gala and the experience was so liberating. It made me feel hot and sexy, which is hard to do when someone has a 9 to 5 job and jobs now a days women have to think and act like a man to be taken seriously…. We end up forgetting our femininity.

I'm already registered for the next round!

The Foxy… Miss Jenn Colton

Recently, I was given the most beautiful card from student Jenn Colton...it not only made my day, but also made me realize that my mission of hopefully inspiring women to claim their power and feminity ..was a good one... Thank you Jenn for sharing.

Read on...

" Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask oursleves, who am I to be brillant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are we not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that others won't feel insecure around you. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is in within us. It's not in some of us, it's in everyone. And if we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." M.Willamson

This quote truly fit what I wanted to say the other day but didn't have the words. You have this intuative ability to help others see their beauty that is inspiring. Thank you for reminding me about my own.

Kitty Cat in training…Miss Donna writes about all those FEATHERS!!

Okay ladies, whether you are bravely in your first Burlesque class or contemplating that
enticing, sexy chair tease, there is one pressing question on all the dancers minds...

What to do with all those feathers ?

As you know they get everywhere, I don’t just mean just your purse, car, drive way, and bedroom. I mean E-V-E-R-Y W-H-E-R-E!!!! So I started picking them up, they were too pretty to throw away, so I saved the nicer ones and tossed the smaller ones that had seen better days.

I put them in a rose bowl in the bedroom, that is where I practice my... um... zoning with the door locked. Now that the rose bowl is full with layers of pink perky feathers, what shall I do with them? Why have a little fun of course, I spot my husbands dress shirt hanging up and ready to wear the next day, I tuck one discretely into his shirt pocket. By noon the next day I was dying to see if he had found it so I sent him a text message while he was at lunch and had him go on an easter egg hunt for his prize. He phoned me back and was thrilled with what I had done.

I kept this up for about a week, each day, different feather, different location, Black Berry case, wallet, brief case, suit pocket and even passport. By the end of the first week he came home with not one but three bouquets of flowers.

Last week when he was traveling to the states, the Customs lady-the mean lady with the mustache who is channeling Hitler-she asked for, no... she demanded his passport, sure enough a pink feather not only came out, but flew out... and up... into the air and hesitated for awhile before it gave in to gravity.

He said it was like a movie, the feather made a figure eight before it quivered and sighed onto the counter, her eyes followed it the entire way. When it landed, and for me this is the best part, he picked it up and put it into his pocket, like a kid with a souvenir, and she said to him...“Sweetie....I am not even going to ask!”

Different day, different feather, different reactions...but a lot of fun. I also carry feathers in my purse and do you want to know why? They make me smile. When I am running around doing chores or paying bills I love it when I feather sticks to my wallet or pen or gets logged in-between receipts or bills. It also makes other people smile.

So when you find those feathers all over the house and yourself, find them a good home, one that can bring a smile or a giggle to someone you love!

BOA POWER!

Wow what an amazing turning point in my life!!! After gaining 20 lbs, going through menopause, separating from husband for 5 years and then getting back together... I had lost myself. My life for the last couple of years has been drama, drama , drama but I went from a Drama Queen to Boa Queen, from "Shauna" to "Sha Sha Schwing" (my ultra-ego name). I realized now the only drama I will have from now on is with a boa.

Taking this class of fun and boa feathers made me forget about the 20 lbs, the menopause and the husband!

Of course what really makes the class is the "Queen Diva" herself....... Miss Di and her lovely, sexy, and confident Assistants Kristy, Annick and Kim! You also have your class of all shapes and ages that become your friends and goddesses just like you.

So be in that tampon commercial and let your boa feathers fly and you will too.

This is the way I'll be posing for my photos from now on.

The Foxy Donna Zarowny…

FOR YOU DI....

Woke up Saturday morning with a case of
OH my Gosh what have I done.

Had chores to do that morning, trying to stall the inevitable, but
the clock had a mind of its own, determined to tick towards
high noon, the time my first ever burlesque class starts.

I was determined to get to my first class
water-bottle and gear in hand
I made my way into the right building.

Not knowing where to locate the room,
I noticed a tall slender blonde woman wearing a pink
boa around her neck. A sign from god, the dancing gods.

I will follow her, but not too closely in case
she thinks I am following her...which I was.

At last at our destination.
An unremarkable dark hallway somewhere between a coatrack
and the ladies washroom.
All it needed was a bare lightbulb swinging from the ceiling
and someone smoking at the end of the hall and I would think
I was in a black and white Bogart movie.

The blonde lady with the bright pink boa, she
has a friend with her
shorter, just as young and dark curly hair.

Damm my roots are over due.
I suddenly felt old.

We exchanged a bit of chit chat
and they looked just as nervous as I did.

They went into the gym so I followed,
safety in numbers...
there were all sorts of women in there,
gorgeous sexy woman of all ages
sizes and abilities
balancing one leg on tipi toe
on a chair while cuddling feather
boas around their necks.

The three of us retreated into
the comfort of the dark, dusty hallway,
life in the hall seemed normal.
Life in the gym seemed...foreign but exciting.

Suddenly it was noon, past noon, and time to meet our destiny,
I took a deep breath, not too deep
as the girls, well they don't need any help sticking out.
Call it age, call it breast feeding syndrome but ya
they are ok without my help.

We waited at the back of the room, fascinated by the other dancers,
the clock struck 12:10
then 12:15, maybe I got the times wrong?

MORE PANIC

Well I was at the right place
at the right time Di just likes to give the ladies their monies worth.

When that group of ladies were done for the day, they turned and faced us new comers
and they all had smiles on their faces.
That is a good sign,
they wouldn't sign up for another level
if they did not like the first one.....

Suddenly it was our turn, more women had gathered and
we slowly made our way toward
Di, our leader, the woman who
claimed she would help us locate our inner Diva, I didn't even know I had one!

We were a serious bunch, like the other group all ages, sizes
and abilities, with one thing in common, no smiles though, just a look of dread on our faces.
But we did it, we survived....and we are stronger for it and happier and sexier as promised
yes she did promise sexy and I for one won't be asking for my money back.

Diana is not only bringing out the Diva
in us she wants us to dance in public wearing
fishnets...

HOLD IT !!! PUT ON THE BREAKS

You want us to wear what?
fishnets sweetie...
and a black dress, skimpy
something tiny,
one more thing, I need you to dance in public....
the routine is only two minutes long darling...

well maybe....I can't believe that thought came from me.
I actually gave the idea a maybe!!!

Ah I see Diana's new name should be
Diana the Warrier, as she is not
only nurturing the diva in us
she is nurturing the confidence in all of us
at different stages of our lives.
well done Di
can't want for the second week.

For those of you thinking of joining.

In about 30 minutes I went from
WHAT HAVE I DONE
to
WHERE DO I SIGN UP NEXT

All for now my sisters...
signed Donna, diva in the making.

PS the latin name for Diana means DIVINE !!
How deliciously ironic AND iconic.

Diana, both in mythology and the dancer we all know and love is noted for her beauty and is often referred to as the ...YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BELIVE THIS ONE
ALSO REFERRED TO AS THE HUNTRESS...I SWEAR THAT IS TRUE..GOOGLE IT IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME.

sitting here wondering if they make fishnets in a plus size????

Wanted to thank you again for a wonderful class!

I think I might have told you that I've got a bad back...last year I threw my back out 5 or 6 different times with weeks of recovery after each. I have a bad disc in my lower back and I kept reinjuring my back before it was recovered which lengthened my recovery considerably. I have a number of back exercises that I can do when I know things are not quite right but I find it hard to keep them going. Your core strengthening portion of the class has some similar exercises to my physio recommended ones and the other ones have all helped my back strength. I find that my core is slowly but steadily getting stronger.

Your class, with your great attitude and great music and such amazing support for all that we all are has really helped me. I feel stronger both in my body and in my soul...okay, my sexy soul...I didn't think I'd ever move like that in the light...and in a room with a lot of other women! But I just feel more confident in my skin. I was feeling bad because I'm so out of shape and it's always been a struggle to make workouts regular. I was feeling so self conscious to start. Now, I'm looking forward to more practice and to finally showing my hubby what we've all been up to these past six weeks.

So, yes, I still love the honey jar and the sailors who don't speak english, but I also loved the ab work, the dance warmup, the sexifying, the routine and just having something to do that was fun and made me feel better about myself. I've also found myself walking around my office pulling my stomach in to my spine. Makes me feel like I'm helping myself a little bit more every day. I'm also going to set time aside each week to just dance...for fun!

Thank you!
Judy
