I've been having a hard time these past few weeks with the passing of my grandmother and recently my relationship of 3 years ended sort of abruptly. I didn't want to go see anyone or talk to anyone, but after class two weeks ago I am SO GLAD THAT I DID. Who would have thought!! I have been filling my bucket list, as this is my 70th year and just wanted to celebrate it by doing out of the comfort zone events..starting with a 3 day mountain hike, a trail ride in b.c., and then to top it off one night I was searching the internet regarding taking a salsa dance lessons and came across “burlesque” ha ha. Thought wow, now that would be fun!. I found “night of the circus” event and and decided to join…upon walking into the class I saw many ladies , some where already doing a routine and some others waiting, that would be my class. Well what a journey, met some of the greatest gals there and we where all there for different reasons..wow..then Miss Leslie took us through the routine, bit by bit, we had a blast, with her humour and strategic dance steps and how to use the boa in many different ways, we all had so many laughs, have made friends for life..not only that but we all talked each other into performing in the gala show at the end of our last session. Now looking for a corset was very eventful and exciting event in itself …then comparing and laughing at ourselves trying to get into them no less was a riot, we all helped each other. We where first on and all did very well.. just “do it” and the feeling of accomplishment is a high in itself..we where all very proud that we not only did burlesque (risqué) but had the courage to perform in front of an audience. Take burlesque… fun, good exercise and Miss Leslie will take you to the next level of expression!!!!

When Di announced that the theme for this Dec gala was going to be a Circus theme, I have to admit I was a bit deflated.
I never really got into the circus and had no idea how that would translate into Burlesque??
Well let me tell you that the talent and productions skills of Burlesquercise Canada must never be underestimated.
After participating in four galas in a row, this Circus gala is by far my favorite. In fact I think I enjoyed watching the other dancers more than participating if that’s even possible!!!
So many great themes. Lion Tamers, African Huntress, Circus Clowns, Ringmaster Clowns, Geisha Fans, Gypsy fans and the amazing Freak Show!! Wow.
I was so impressed by the quality of dancing and the commitment to the characters in the Freak Show performance. And none of us are professional dancers. We are all just women to want to have some crazy fun after work. LOL. And if you look at the pictures and videos, you’ll quickly see our craziness.
The music choices were outstanding. To my amazement every routine was VERY sexy and totally fit the Burlesque style. I have no idea where the inspiration comes from or how they
Find these music selections but this was an incredible show. The lights, the colors, the sound. And all the extras that came with it. Popcorn, hot dogs, a woman on stilts, human tables, it was incredible!!! Sure to please for any spectator.
But I think what most touches and impresses people is the heart and great care that each dancer puts into their performances. And that only comes from Di and her fabulous Burlesquercise instructresses. Miss Kim, Miss Annick and Miss Leslie. A few of us decided to get together and practice our parasol routine one Sunday afternoon. Miss Annick gave up an hour of her personal time to come help us. That’s pretty special. It takes a big heart with the capacity for a great amount of generosity to give up your personal time to help your students. And that heart and spirit comes from Di. It’s Di who creates the Vision for how Burlesquercise operates and feels. She holds that Vision up for the rest of us and we all just march along behind her. Giggling, excited and sexified!!! Like all good Vixens should be.
When I first joined Burlesquercise I felt very alone in the world. I didn’t really know a lot of people in Calgary and was going through some personal Trauma at the time. Through Buresquercise I have met some incredible people and experienced some amazing events and opportunities. Now today my life is full and happy. I have made many friends and even lost 40 pounds since I first started dancing J
Lastly, finally, after all this time, ever since I was a little girl in my Holly Hobbie bedroom, I am finally the legend in my own mind that I always wanted to be J

Or is it Ballroom ladies who do burlesque? That's like the chicken or the egg!
We have 6 incredible women who do both and we are featuring them for that very reason.
Calgary has a rich dance background and selection of talented dancers; this city is known to produce some of the top artists in their fields. We are lucky to reside in such an amazing city, and Burlesquercise is none the more proud to have some of these dancers step through their doors.
Having witnessed these ladies most recently at the Rocky Mountain Dancesport Grand Prix, we are even more amazed at their spins and dance frame on the ballroom dance floor.
Whether you have coached them, cheered them on, or danced with them in a burlesque class, we would like you to meet our 6 ladies who dance both burlesque and ballroom, in no particular order:

Hairpalooza Calgary 2012

Burlesquercise was invited to be featured in the closing show of the Hairpalooza Hair Competition in Calgary. It was a day of hair hair hair and makeup! Did you miss it? Watch the video!
Leasa Berg, owner of Salon 240 was tasked with assembling a showcase of hair models and dancers for the closing show of The Schwarzkopf's Hairpalooza Calgary 2012. A 10 minute dance medley was pieced together and Miss Leslie & Miss Annick performed Show Me How You Burlesque alongside hair models.
This event was held downtown at The Bank/The Exchange on Sunday November 4/12.

Boots Performance is The Winner

A big congratulations to Jade, Elle and Hilary who did a spectacular dance performance at the Rocky Mountain Dancesport Grand Prix.
Not only did they rock it on the dance floor, but they were selected by the judges as the most entertaining routine!
This up and coming trio of ladies have been working hard since their first disco number a year ago. Having done a variety of shows together, they entered their first competition at the Rocky Mountain Dancesport Grand Prix thinking this would be another great opportunity to dance in front of a crowd. Not only did they dance amazingly, they achieved a 93% in the Team Showcase Division, which earned them a Gold medal. On top of that, the judges selected their routine "Boots" as the most entertaining and invited them back for the Saturday Evening Showcase in front of an even bigger crowd! WOW!
We are very proud of our three ladies, Miss Jade, Miss Elle and Miss Hilary - who quietly work hard, are great friends with each other and provide a super example of team work and leadership to all the other Burlesquercise ladies!
Way to go! We can't wait to see you on the dance floor again!
